A Disgusting Use for A Church Bulletin Board.

My name is Mike and I thought for a long time about many names for this article/webpage, but that was the only one that suited the atrosity I witnessed on Rt 50 in Woodbine NJ. As my fiance and I drove by the Corbin City Baptist Church, the church bulletin board happened to catch the eye of Jackie, my fiance. She remarked "Oh my god, That's disgusting!" "What?" I replied. That Churche's bulletin board said 'Sorry Vermont, it's still a sin.' I can't believe that!" Neither could I. I, in fact, was quite outraged. Despite the churche's feelings on gay marrige why would they post such a hate filled message on their message board? I wanted to do something about this, however, I had no idea what..... after all they are within their legal right to post anything they want on their bulliten board, just as I am within mine to inform others of this horrible deed. Personally, when I think of church bulletin boards, I picture an inspiring message such as "Christ is with you." and sermon times, not a message of hate. I decided to go back later with a camera and take a cople of pictures with the intent of maybe making a web site, or sending them to newspapers, or any other means by which I could see to it that people found out about this. When we arrived at the church we found an equally disturbing message on the other side of the bulletin board:"The supreme court of heaven says abortion is murder." So, four pictures later, we left.

I am for gay marriges, and I am pro choice. However, my politics do not play in to my disdain for this church. Everyone is entitled to their beliefs. My problem with the whole thing came in when I thought about what it would be like to explain those messages to a child, or what it would feel like for a gay member of the congregation to look upon that bulletin board, and it made me mad. Do you feel the same? Do you want to tell them? I took the liberty of posting the phone number and address of the church in case you were moved to call or write to them to let them know how you feel about this issue.

I thank you for your interest in this issue, and I hope you'll see fit to call or write. They are within their legal rights to put these signs up, however, if enough people complain, perhaps we can make a difference.

If you called or wrote to the church, let me know. Post in this message board. It will also be the way to ge in touch with me. Just leave your e mail address and what information you'd like from me and I'll get back to you. Feel free to put any opinions of any sort in the message boards as well.
